- Henrik Stenson Wins British Open
- Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson claims victory over Phil Mickelson in the final segment of the British Open on July 17, 2016, in Troon, Scotland. Stenson becomes the second golfer to finish a major with a final round score of 63. Mickelson ends three strokes behind Stenson after a hotly contested duel. Stenson has twice tied for third place at the British Open and placed second in 2013 when Mickelson won. Stenson told the New York Times, "I knew Phil wasn't going to back down at any point and in some ways, that made it easier for me because I knew I could never rest and had to keep making birdies."
