World Atlas & Map Library

Many believe the word "atlas" comes from the Greek deity who is commonly pictured with the entire world balanced carefully across his broad shoulders, named Atlashimself. Additionally, Claudius Ptolemaeus, or Ptolomy, was a 2nd-century scholar who is often attributed as being the father of modern geographical maps, as well as astronomical and mathematical breakthroughs.

As such, atlases and maps have long held prominence around the world, from ancient cultures to modern audiences who navigate with Google Maps.
