- Series of Earthquakes Devastate Southern Japan
- Police rescue team members search through damaged houses to check possibility of trapped people in Mashiki, Kumamoto prefecture, on Friday, April 15, 2016. More than 680 aftershocks rattled communities in southern Japan, causing nearly continuous damage; 89 of these registered at magnitude 4 or higher. The death toll neared 50 within a week of the first quake.
