- On Oct. 30, 2016, protestors take to the streets in Morocco after a fish seller named Mouhcine Fikri is crushed to death by a garbage truck compactor. Fikri was allegedly selling swordfish illegally, and when the police confiscated it, Fikri jumped into the garbage truck to retrieve the fish. Thousand of protesters gathered in the city of Al-Hoceima and Casablanca chanting the word "Horga," meaning injustice or persecution. And in Rabat, where protests also took place, they chanted against the royal establishment. Observers are drawing parallels between these protests and those of 2011, when similar outrage over the suicide of a fruit seller sparked the Arab Spring.
