    On this date in 1957, Hurricane Audrey made landfall just west of Cameron, Louisiana. Sustained winds reached 150 mph, and the 12 foot storm surge flooded the bayous. The storm killed 381 people and caused damages in excess of $150 million. Two buildings, a brick courthouse and a cement-block icehouse, were all that remained standing in Cameron following the devastation.
