ST. JOHN Daniel Bennett , a Representative from New York; born in Sharon, Conn., October 8, 1808; engaged in mercantile pursuits and the real estate business at Monticello, N.Y., in 1831; member of the State assembly in 1840; elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress (March 4, 1847-March 3, 1849); moved to Newburgh, N.Y.; delegate to the Constitutional-Union National Convention in 1860; unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election to the Thirty-seventh Congress in 1860; member of the State senate in 1875; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1876; chief registrar in the banking department of New York State; died in New York City February 18, 1890; interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, N.Y.
