Skier Ted Ligety is the giant slalom champion who won the gold medal in combined events at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Born and raised in Utah, Ligety's first World Cup event was the giant slalom in 2004, and he joined the U.S. Ski Team the following year. His first big win came in Turin, where his gold medal was a surprise upset over top skiers like Bode Miller. Ligety has since had 20 World Cup wins, including 4 championship titles in the giant slalom, and since 2011 he's had four gold medals at the World Championships. One of the top racing skiers in the world, he was among the favorites going into the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
