Actor John David Washington broke out in 2018 as the star of Spike Lee's movie, BlacKkKlansman, playing an African-American policeman who infiltrates the KKK, a white supremacist group. Washington's first career as a professional football player ended with an injury when he was 28, and he turned to acting. His first break as an actor came playing a professional football player in the television series Baller in 2015 (starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson). That led to roles in independent feature films such as Love Beats Rhymes (2017, directed by RZA) and Monsters and Men (2018). BlacKkKlansman won the Grand Prize of the Jury in 2018, and Washington was hailed as a natural on screen. His next lead role was in the Christopher Nolan film Tenet (2020, with Robert Pattinson).
