Place Of Birth:
Los Angeles, California
Best Known As:
The Oscar-winning star of the movie Shakespeare in Love
A big Hollywood star of the 1990s, Gwyneth Paltrow won an Oscar for her starring role in 1998's Shakespeare in Love. Premiere magazine once called her the modern actress "most likely to assume the mantle of Audrey Hepburn," but in later years she has become more famous for her "lifestyle" company, Goop. Gwyneth Paltrow was born into the business: her father was the director Bruce Paltrow, and her mother the actress Blythe Danner. Paltrow made her movie debut in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991), and then grew into a willowy blonde beauty who had leading roles in the thriller Seven (1995, with Brad Pitt) and the Jane Austen flick Emma (1996). She proved herself as a leading lady by winning the best actress Oscar for playing Viola De Lesseps in the romantic comedy Shakespeare in Love (1998, with Joseph Fiennes as Shakespeare). Paltrow's romantic relationships with actors Pitt and Ben Affleck also kept her in the public eye, until she married singer Chris Martin of the band Coldplay in December of 2003. She and Martin were married for 10 years until their separation in March of 2014 and divorce later that year. Gwyneth Paltrow's other films include The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, with Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett), Duets (2000, directed by her father, Bruce Paltrow), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001, with Ben Stiller and Gene Hackman), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004, with Jude Law), Proof (2005, with Jake Gyllenhaal), The Good Night (2007, directed by her brother Jake Paltrow) and Thanks for Sharing (2012). She has also played Pepper Potts, super-assistant to Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) in a trilogy of Iron Man films and other related Marvel superhero flicks. She launched Goop, a newsletter with lifestyle and health advice, in 2008. It has since become a website and a major business, selling health and beauty products as well as vitamins and supplements. Gwyneth Paltrow won an Emmy in 2011 for a recurring role as ineffective substitute teacher Holly Holliday in the TV series Glee. On September 29, 2018, she married one of the show's co-creators, the writer and producer Brad Falchuk.
