GIAIMO Robert Nicholas , a Representative from Connecticut; born in New Haven, Conn., October 15, 1919; attended North Haven public schools; graduated from Fordham College, New York City, in 1941, and University of Connecticut in 1943; served in the United States Army from 1943 until separated from the service as a first lieutenant in 1946; captain, Judge Advocate General Corps, United States Army Reserve; was admitted to the bar in 1947 and commenced the practice of law in New Haven, Conn.; member of North Haven Board of Education 1949-1955; assistant clerk, Probate Court, New Haven, Conn., 1952-1954; chairman, Connecticut Personnel Appeals Board 1955-1958; third selectman, North Haven, 1955-1957; unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1956 to the Eighty-fifth Congress; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-sixth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1959-January 3, 1981); chairman, Committee on the Budget (Ninety-fifth and Ninety-sixth Congresses); was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-seventh Congress in 1980; died on May 24, 2006, in Arlington, Va.; interment in Center Cemetery, North Haven, Conn.
