Paul LEIDY, Congress, PA (1813-1877)

LEIDY Paul , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Hemlock Township, Columbia County, Pa., November 13, 1813; attended the common schools; apprenticed as a tailor; taught school in Danville, Pa., for several years; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1837 and commenced practice in Danville; district attorney of Montour County 1852-1857; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John G. Montgomery and served from December 7, 1857, to March 3, 1859; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1858 to the Thirty-sixth Congress; died in Danville, Pa., September 11, 1877; interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
