Asti

Asti äˈstē [key], city, capital of Asti prov., in Piedmont, NW Italy, on the Tanaro River. It is a commercial and industrial center, noted for its sparkling wine (Asti spumante). The city, which retains its medieval appearance, has a fine Gothic cathedral (14th cent.).
