Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument

Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, 330,780 acres (133,860 hectares), N Calif., est. 2015. Jointly managed by Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, the monument extends from near sea level at Lake Berryessa at its southern end to 7,056 ft (2,151 m) on the summit of Snow Mountain, some 100 mi (160 km) to the north. The monument has diverse ecosystems and habitat types including chapparal, oak woodlands, conifer forests, and wildflower meadows; animal life includes bald eagles, northern spotted owls, black bears, Tule elk, river otters, and mountain lions.
