Weissenburg in Bayern

Weissenburg in Bayern vī´sənbo͝ork ĭn bī´yərn [key] or Weissenburg, town, Bavaria, S Germany. It is a manufacturing center of Middle Franconia products include gold and silver lace, processed wood, and metal goods. Weissenburg was founded in the 9th cent. on a Roman site. It became a free imperial city in the mid-14th cent. and passed to Bavaria in 1806. Points of interest in the picturesque town include remains of Roman fortifications and of the town's medieval walls the late Gothic town hall (1476) and the Carmelite church (15th cent.).
