Šarec, Marjan

Šarec, Marjan, 1977–, Slovenian political leader and actor, b. Ljubljana, Yugoslavia (now in Slovenia). He had a career as a comedian and political satirist on radio and television before he was elected mayor of Kamnik in 2010. In 2017 he ran unsuccessfully for president against Borut Pahor. He was elected to the parliament, and his List of Marjan Šarec became the second largest party in it, in 2018. He subsequently became prime minister of a five-party, center-left minority government, but resigned in 2020 because of the lack of legislative support.
