Masisi, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe

Masisi, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe, 1962–, Botswanan political leader. An educator, he studied in the United States and Great Britain, then worked for the United Nations Children's Fund (1995–2003). He first entered Botswana's parliament in 2009 as a member of the Botswana Democratic party. Masisi served as minister for public affairs and presidential administration (2011–14), minister of education and skills development (2014–18), and vice president (2014–18) under President Seretse Khama Ian Khama. In 2018 he became president of Botswana when Khama resigned. Later opposed by Khama after he moved against corruption and broke with some of Khama's policies, Masisi was elected to a full term in 2019.
