Lacalle Pou, Luis Alberto Alejandro Aparicio

Lacalle Pou, Luis Alberto Alejandro Aparicio, 1973–, Uruguayan politican, president of Uruguay (2020–). A lawyer and a member of the conservative National (Blanco) party, he served in the chamber of representatives (2000–2015) and in the senate (2015–19). After making an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 2014, he won the office in 2019 after a runoff, ending 15 years of rule by the left-of-center Broad Front. Lacalle Pou also became the first National party candidate to win the presidency since his father, Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, was elected in 1989.
