Milanović, Zoran

Milanović, Zoran zōˈrän mēläˈnōvĭch [key], 1966–, Croatian political leader, b. Zagreb. He studied law at the Univ. of Zagreb (grad. 1990) and the Univ. of Brussels (M.A. 1998). A member of the Social Democratic party, he became party leader in 2007 and was leader of the opposition (2007–2011). In the 2011 elections he led a center-left, four-party coalition to victory and became prime minister; in 2015 the SDP-led coalition lost. After the SDP-led coalition lost the early parliamentary elections in 2016, Milanović stepped down as party leader. In 2020 he was elected president of Croatia.
