She has called homosexuals a “biological error” and “sexual deviants,” and referred to gay men as “predatory on young boys.” Schlessinger, who passes herself off as a radio shrink, has a doctorate in physiology, not psychology.

- Stephen King's 66-page novella Riding the Bullet is available exclusively in electronic only as an "e-book." For $2.50 readers can download the book onto computers or personal organizers. The software prevents users from printing or copying the manuscript. More than 500,000 copies were downloaded in the first three days the book was available.

- Steven Spielberg confirms that he's on-board to direct A.I. — artificial intelligence—the unfinished project of the late Stanley Kubrick. Details on the plot are scant, but the film is said to revolve around robots who are able to think and form independent thought. The film is slated for a summer 2001 release.

- Willie Fulgear, a 61-year-old Los Angeles resident, finds 52 of the 55 missing Oscar statues in a dumpster behind a Food-4-Less store. He'll take home the $50,000 reward offered by Roadway Express, and he also gets an invite to the Oscar ceremony.
- Madonna confirms she's expecting a child with 31-year-old British film director Guy Ritchie. Ritchie and Madonna have been together for about two years. It's her second child; she had daughter with her former personal trainer, Carlos Leon.

- The Wall Street Journal publishes the results of its poll of voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization that administers the Oscars. The poll has American Beauty winning Best Picture, Denzel Washington taking Best Actor, and Hilary Swank earning the Best Actress nod. The Journal managed to persuade 356 of the 5,067 members to reveal who they voted for.
