The Road to El Dorado is standard-fare DreamWorks animation about the South American city built of gold. Scheming Spaniards Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branagh) steal passage aboard the boat of a conquistador bound for a round of looting indigenous cultures in the New World. The duo manages to break free, but the lure of gold prevents them from returning home. With a rare map in hand, they strike out for El Dorado.

Rosie Perez delivers the movie's most spirited performance, as a street-wise Dorado native who's in on the Spaniard's con (they're pretending to be gods to get the shiny stuff) and itching to leave the gilded town. A high priest is also catching on, but with the conquistador's army approaching, the real question is whether the sneaky Europeans will help hide and preserve El Dorado or expose it to the money-hungry world.
