What do Steve McQueen, Steve McGarrett (Hawaii Five-O), and Steve Austin (The Six Million Dollar Man) have in common? Together they embody the hip American manhood that makes up The Tao of Steve. In this deft comedy, Dex (Donal Logue) is an affable, pudgy Don Juan who gets the girls by following this faux-Zen code of cool. A nagging problem with commitment means he's basically just a schoolboy with a growing list of one-night stands.

It's hard to imagine a movie more like its central character. Dex plays with children, spouts philosophy, and schemes how to seduce women by seeming as natural and facade-free as possible. Donal Logue shoulders the role very well, but underneath the movie's smart exterior there is a shifty-eyed profit player who brings no surprises to the affair.
