Once again, Edward Norton shows his range, intensity and talent in this blunt, powerful film that speaks volumes about hate without being preachy. Fresh out of jail for killing two black men, neo-Nazi skinhead Derek Vinyard (Norton) wants to turn his life around and start fresh. His younger brother, Danny (Furlong), has adapted Derek's hateful ideology, however. Told partly in flashbacks, the film chronicles Derek's descent and his turnaround on intellectual terms. Indeed, Derek's rationale for his bigotry is frighteningly well-thought and communicated.
