“Popeyes.“ He started the business with a fried chicken stand in New Orleans in 1971 and owned a chain of 800 restaurants by the 1980s. In 1989, Copeland bought another fried chicken chain,“ Church's Chicken,“ which landed him in too much debt and seeking bankruptcy protection. He lost most of his restaurants, but made money back by selling his recipe to a new owner.
