TONRY Richard Alvin , a Representative from Louisiana; born in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, La., June 25, 1935; attended the Catholic schools of New Orleans; graduated from Jesuit High School, 1953; A.B., Spring Hill College, Mobile, Ala., 1960; M.A., Spring Hill College, Mobile, Ala., 1962; graduate studies, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., 1962; J.D., Loyola University, New Orleans, La., 1967; admitted to the Louisiana bar in 1967; lawyer, private practice; engaged in private practice of law in Arabi and Chalmette, La., 1967-1976; member of the Louisiana state house of representatives, 1976; elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fifth Congress and served until his resignation on May 4, 1977 (January 3, 1977-May 4, 1977); unsuccessful candidate for nomination in the special election to fill the vacancy caused by his resignation in the Ninety-fifth Congress; unsuccessful candidate for the Louisiana state house of representatives, 1983; resumed the practice of law; died in Lumberton, Miss. on July 3, 2012.
