Age: 91politician and women's-rights activist who served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1955 to 1974, as a Democrat from Michigan. She successfully argued for the inclusion of “sex” in the 1964 Civil Rights Act and long fought for the Equal Rights Amendment, which, although it passed in the House and Senate, was never ratified.
