nine-time Pro Bowl center, who helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win four Super Bowl titles in his first six NFL seasons; an undersized (225 lbs), but tough center when he was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 1974 draft-one of four future hall of famers drafted by the team that day; played from 1974-88 with Pittsburgh and his final two seasons with Kansas City; sustained serious head injuries during his career that led to brain damage that wasn't diagnosed until 1999; tragically, his condition led to bouts with drug addiction and homelessness after he retired; member of the All-Time NFL team selected in 2000; inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997. The cause of his death was not given.
