Ralph Fasanella 1997 Deaths

Ralph Fasanella

A onetime union organizer and machinist, Fasanella painted complex works that captured the essence of urban living. He gained fame in 1972 when a New York magazine cover featured him on the cover and declared, “This man pumps gas in the Bronx for a living. He may also be the best primitive painter since Grandma Moses.” His works include Subway Riders and Family Supper.
