Tell us about your work---what do you do? I basically manage and maintain national banner spots that run across our network . What skills are needed? Definitely need Excel and PowerPoint . You need to be able to build good relationships with clients. You also have to be organized. You need great people skills and work with their demands and be flexible with their needs . What was your major? Economics How did you get started in your career? I started as an Internet marketing advisor for a major Internet site. I was willing to come into a lower level entry position and worked my way up to my current position that has more responsibility and pays better. What experience do you need in this job? You need a couple of years of business experience. Marketing, sales, or administrative experience is helpful. You really have to know your medium. I, for example, knew a lot about the Internet and that helped me get this job. Describe your "typical" workday: I check up on the current campaigns, I send reports each week to the clients, and I work on proposals. This includes a lot of maintenance and client correspondence. It's a lot of people-oriented work . I spend a good amount of time prospecting (i.e. looking for new clients ). What is the hardest aspect of your job? It can be tedious at times. Coordination can be frustrating because you have to get in touch with so many people at one time. Sometimes they're not available and you need the information. That can be frustrating. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? I guess participation in a proposal or an idea that comes to fruition and actually works out. In addition, clieent satisfaction is rewarding. When a client is really happy with the work you've done, it makes you feel great. What are your suggestions for someone considering this field? Get your foot in the door of a company that you like through an entry level or internship position. Keep your voice up about advancement opportunities and work hard!
