Laurie Metcalf's familiar to TV comedy fans as Aunt Jackie from the sitcom Roseanne (1988-97). In 2018 Metcalf was nominated for an Oscar for her role as a tightly-wound mom in Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird (2017). Raised in southern Illinois and a graduate of Illinois State University (1976), Metcalf's early career began in Chicago as an early member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, along with actors such as John Malkovich and Joan Allen. Metcalf made her New York stage debut in 1984 with an Obie winning performance in Balm in Gilead. Along with her stage pedigree, Metcalf earned three Emmys during the nine seasons she co-starred in the hit comedy Roseanne. She has appeared in feature films such as Internal Affairs (1990, starring Andy Garcia), Leaving Las Vegas (1995), Scream 2 (1997), Bulworth (1998, starring Warren Beatty) and, as the voice of Andy's mom, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 (1999 and 2010). She also was cast in a recurring role on TV's The Big Bang Theory (as the mother of Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons).
