Nebraska, University of

Nebraska, University of, main campus at Lincoln; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1869, opened 1871, reorganized 1968. The university has an excellent archaeological museum and noted art galleries. The medical center, with schools of medicine, nursing, and health sciences, is at Omaha, as is the separate Omaha campus (formerly the Univ. of Omaha). The Kearney campus, formerly Kearney State College and part of the university since 1991, hosts a noted annual conference on world affairs.
