Roubaix

Roubaix ro͞obā´ [key], city (1990 pop. 98,179), Nord dept., N France, in French Flanders. Part of the Lille urban area, Roubaix, with adjacent Tourcoing, was one of the largest textile (chiefly wool) centers in France, but it greatly declined economically in the late 20th cent.; a national textile school is there. The La Piscine Museum of Art and Industry is there. Roubaix was occupied by the Germans during both World Wars.
