Hart, Doris, 1925–2015, American tennis player, b. St. Louis, Mo. One of the outstanding tennis stars of the 1950s, Hart won her first Grand Slam title in women's doubles at Wimbledon in 1947 and from then until 1955 she won 35 Grand Slam titles, 6 in women's singles, 14 in women's doubles, and 15 in mixed doubles. In 1951 she won all three events at Wimbledon; she later did the same at the French (1952) and U.S. (1954) championships. She, Margaret Smith Court, and Martina Navratilova are the only female professional tennis players to win the three events at all four Grand Slam tournaments. In 10 Wrightman Cup competitions (1946–55), Hart won 14 matches and lost none in singles matches and won eight and lost one in doubles contests.
