Ali, Irfaan (Mohammed Irfaan Ali), 1980–, Guyanese political leader. He worked for the Caribbean Development Bank before he was first elected to Guyana's national assembly in 2006. A member of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), he served as minister of housing and water (2009–15) and acting minister of tourism, industry, and commerce (2011–15) under President Ramotar. In 2019 he was accused of conspiracy and fraud, but the charges were later dropped and Ali became the PPP candidate for president of Guyana. In 2020, preliminary election results suggested that David Granger's coalition had narrowly won, but results from a crucial district were questioned and Ali ultimately became president following a recount.
