Varnhagen von Ense, Karl August
Varnhagen von Ense, Karl August krl ougo?ost frnhg?n f?n ?nz? [key], 1785?1858, German poet, historian, and journalist. He collaborated with Chamisso and other writers and wrote Biographische Denkmaler [biographical monuments] (5 vol., 1824?30). The Berlin salon of his wife, Rahel Antoine Friederike Levin Varnhagen von Ense (1771?1833), was frequented by leading romantics, among them Heine, Gutzkow, and Laube.
