Doonesburyhas satirized contemporary events, personalities, and lifestyles, and because it has addressed such controversial issues as Watergate, the drug culture, homelessness, and homosexuality, many newspapers have run the strip on the editorial page. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1975 for editorial cartooning. In 1983 he coauthored a stage version of the comic strip. 40: A Doonesbury Retrospective (2010) is a compendium of decades of representative strips.
