Tuesday, November 1, 2022 – The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has accused oil companies of "war profiteering" as the possibility of a windfall tax was raised if the companies do not boost domestic production.

While giving a remark, with just over a week left from the midterm election due to hold on November 8, President Biden criticized significant oil companies for making record profits while refusing the prices at the pump for the people of America. The President vowed to look to congress to levy tax penalties on oil companies if they don't invest toward lowering the cost of fuel for American citizens.

The President emphasized more on ExxonMobil, which reported an earning of $19.7bn last week in the third quarter alone. He accused the company of using its record profits to provide shareholders with hefty dividends but failed to invest in improving production that would benefit consumers at the pump.

This law makes it possible to have hundreds of thousands of people mobilized. These people have been sentenced to probation or have recently been released from colonies that were previously forbidden to serve.

President Putin confirmed that an additional 18,000 soldiers have already been mobilized by Kremlin, above its goal of 300,000 to fight in the war in Ukraine from the general male population substances.

Though the Russian military earlier this week announced that all partial mobilization activities had been suspended, Putin’s partial mobilization order will only end when the President signs an official decree.

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 – Ukraine has confirmed it faced fierce attacks in the east from forces of Russia that were reinforced with troops withdrawn from Kherson in the south. On the other hand, NATO and Poland have concluded that the missile crash in Poland was probably a stray fired by Ukraine’s air defenses.

Officials said the government in Kyiv was working to restore power across the country on Wednesday after an intense Russian strike struck civilian infrastructure.

On Wednesday, ambassadors of NATO held emergency talks to respond to the blast that killed two people on Tuesday at a grain facility in Poland close to the Ukrainian border, the first deadly extension of the war into the western alliance.

The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, said, “from the information gathered, it was an S-300 rocket made in the Soviet Union, an old rocket and there is no evidence that Russia launched it.”

Inflation Of The United Kingdom Jumps To 41-Year High Of 11.1%

UK cost of living crisis

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 – The office for National Statistics said United Kingdom’s inflation rose to a fresh high in October due to Soaring energy costs, which is terrible news for an economy sliding into recession. In October, the annual inflation rate rose to 11.1%, up from 10.1% in the 12 months from September.

The rise in gas and electricity prices has caused a sharp rise in living costs, despite a government energy price guarantee, which caps energy bills at £2,500 ($2,970) for the typical household. In contrast, inflation of food prices rose to 16,4%.

In a statement by ONS chief economist Grant Fitzner, he said, “over the past year, the gas price has climbed nearly 130% while electricity has risen by around 66%.

The Data from ONS last week showed that the economy of the UK shrank in the third quarter, and the bank of England projects that the recession will continue through the first quarter of 2024.

The Supreme Court Ruling Will Prevent Scottish Parliament From Holding New Independence Referendum

Scotland Referendum

Wednesday, November 23, 2022 – The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has ruled in a unanimous judgment that the Scottish parliament cannot hold a second independence referendum without the approval of Westminster, a judgment likely to anger Scottish nationalists who say the future of the country is for Scottish voters to decide.

Nicola Sturgeon, the first minister immediately after the ruling, said Scottish democracy would not be denied. She also said that “the ruling blocked one route to Scotland’s independence. But in a democracy, their voice cannot and will not be silenced.”

The President of the Supreme Court, Lord Reed, while delivering the judgment on Wednesday morning said the Scottish parliament did not have the power to legislate for a referendum on independence because such a bill would relate to the future of the union of the UK, which is a matter reserved to Westminster.

French Parliament Plans To Include Right To Abortion In Constitution

Abortion France

Friday, November 25, 2022 – The French National Assembly has backed a bid to enshrine the right to abortion in the constitution, which was largely prompted by increased restrictions elsewhere. Lawmakers voted in the majority to include a clause guaranteeing “the effectiveness and equal access to the right to end pregnancy voluntarily”.

Though the bill will face a tough passage, Mathilde Pinot, a Left-wing MP and the person behind the change said it was to protect against the backsliding seen in the US and Poland.

The Senate, which is the upper house, rejected a similar proposal last month and is thought unlikely to back the new amendment. Right-wing parties which dominate the Senate argue that the right to abortion is not under threat in France.

A decision will also have to be made over the change of constitution, although opinion polls suggest that it is backed by over 80% of French voters.

Wednesday, November 30, 2022 - The Chinese communist leader, Jiang Zemin, who paved the way for the emergence of China as a global superpower, died at the age of 96. The former chief of the ruling Communist party and state president died due to leukemia and multiple organ failure on Wednesday.

After the West shunned China following the massacre in Tiananmen Square in 1989, China, with Jiang at the top of its government, successfully reintegrated itself into the international community by regaining sovereignty over Hong Kong, winning the right to host the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and most importantly becoming a member of the World Trade Organization.

In 1989, the relatively unknown Jiang was handpicked by the then-paramount leader Deng Xiaoping to lead the party after a bloody military suppression of the pro-democracy movement nationwide.
