Tesla Recalls 11,000 Model X SUVs

Tesla announced on October 12, 2017, that it would recall over 11,000 Model X SUVs. The recall was spurred by a recent development that revealed the seats were more likely to fall forward in the event of a crash. The company is working towards fixing all cars affected by this issue. (Reuters).

Penguins Face Difficulties in Antarctic Breeding Season

A group of penguins fighting for survival

Unusually high amounts of ice this season in the Antarctic have resulted in the survival of only two Adelie penguins during this breeding season. On October 13, conservation groups urged for action to help the penguins during the next breeding season, creating a plan that will be go before the board on Monday.(BBC).

Qualcomm Files Lawsuit Against Apple

Qualcomm

On October 13, Qualcomm announced the lawsuit it had filed in China, requesting the sale of iPhones be banned throughout the country. Qualcomm cited a patent infringement to be the reason. (Reuters).

Hackers Exploit Issues with Adobe’s Flash Software

A weakness in the Adobe Flash software early last week has been the victim of hackers, reported Adobe Systems Inc. on October 14. The company has released an update to fix this problem for now, but continues with the plans to retire the software entirely by the end of 2020. (Reuters).

1.3 MIllion Vehicles Recalled by Ford

On October 18, 2017, Ford announced it would recall nearly 1.3 million vehicles across North America in order to add water shields. Ford said the problem could lead to a door remaining open while one drives, or having issues opening and closing doors; however, no accidents or injuries have been reported due to the issue.(Reuters).

Amazon Continues to Receive Proposals

After its recent announcement to add a second headquarters, Amazon has been flooded with proposals. On October 23, the company said they have had approximately 238 proposals, and will continue to accept more until October 26. The final decision will be announced by the company in the coming year.
