One of the 1997?1998 season's few hits earned critical praise for its intelligent writing, quirkiness and talented cast. Insecure, sensitive Ally McBeal (Flockhart) joins a small Boston law firm and finds her former boyfriend, Billy Thomas (Bellows), is also an associate. She can't hide the fact that she still loves Billy, even though he's happily married. Ally is further tormented when Billy's wife (Thorne-Smith) joins the practice. Some of Ally's musings appear as fantasy sequences. Ally McBeal won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series and Flockhart took top acting honors in a comedy. David E. Kelley, responsible for Picket Fences and Chicago Hope writes and produces Ally.
