Only Shelton could make golf so stylishly amusing. Roy McAvoy (Costner), a laid-back (until he hits the links) Texan, lives in a trailer, runs a dilapidated driving range and makes the most out of his life of leisure. He gets a little more serious about golf and life when Dr. Molly Griswold (Russo), a psychotherapist, arrives for a golf lesson. Sparks fly between the two, but she's already attached to David Simms (Johnson), McAvoy's former rival. What to do? McAvoy's caddie, Romeo (Marin), suggests that McAvoy go out and win the U.S. Open in order to win Griswold's attention. Surely a joke, right? McAvoy doesn't think so as long as he can keep his inner demons in check. Russo shines and proves she's more than just a pretty face.
