It's tough to take a preachy film seriously when it condemns violence then revels in it. Ice Cube's flat performance amplifies the problem. Summoned back to his native South Africa for his father's funeral after spending 12 years in the United States, Vusi (Ice Cube) learns his youngest brother, Steven (Miyeni), now a drug addict, is missing and owes money to a drug lord (Rhames). Vusi and Steven's white stripper girlfriend, Karen (Hurley), search for Steven on Johannesburg's seamy streets. Vusi resorts to vigilante justice that turns unnecessarily gruesome. Hurley's crack-addicted vamp breathes life into an otherwise unwatchable movie.
