Cos dangles between feel-good fare and outrageous comedy but never establishes itself as either. Unemployed theater director Lewis (Mendelsohn) reluctantly takes a job staging a play at a mental hospital. The hospital staff has a cabaret revue in mind, but the patients are thinking more along the lines of Cos fan tutte. Lewis and his troupe pull off Mozart's opera buffa fabulously, with a few minor disasters along the way.
