Senda Berenson Biography
Senda Berenson
athleteBorn: 1868
Berenson developed the game of women's basketball, which she introduced at Smith College in 1893. The game was a landmark for women's athletics and quickly gained popularity at schools across the United States. Like the recently invented men's basketball, it offered an effective means of indoor exercise, but Berenson amended the rules to avoid unladylike “rough play.”
