Wilmer Mizell
Age: 68former congressman and major league pitcher who went by the nickname "Vinegar Bend," which was the name of his hometown in Alabama; pitched for St. Louis, Pittsburgh and the N.Y. Mets from 1952-62; won World Series title with the Pirates in 1960; won 90 career games and had a 3.85 career ERA; served from 1968-74 as the U.S. representative from North Carolina's 5th District; appointed Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development by President Ford in 1974 and Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Governmental Affairs by President Reagan in 1982.
