Birthplace: Kamenetz-Podolsk, Moldavia
Tracy came to the United States in 1906 and began his entertainment career in vaudeville. He gained tremendous popularity on his radio show, ?The Street Singer,? which premiered in 1931. He appeared in the 1932 film The Big Broadcast, with Bing Crosby and Kate Smith, and was cast in British films such as Limelight (1936). His recordings sold well during the Depression and he remained a popular star through the 1940s. His recording of the song ?Pennies from Heaven? was featured in the 1981 movie of that name (starring Steve Martin), giving Tracy a bit of a comeback long after his retirement.Died: 10/5/1997
