Three Police Officers Shot in Baton Rouge

On July 17, 2016, a former Marine sergeant from Kansas City, Missouri shoots six police officers in the city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Three of the police officers die. The ex-Marine is Gavin Long, a 29-year-old African American who won many medals during his time in the military, including the Good Conduct Medal. Long is fatally shot by other officers responding to the scene. This incident happens only two weeks after the shooting of Alton Sterling, an incident that inspires many protests throughout the country regarding police conduct.
