Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announces on Monday July 11, 2016, that President Obama has decided to deploy 560 troops to Iraq in an attempt to recapture Mosul, a large and strategically vital city that is currently under ISIS control. The majority of the new troops will be deployed at an recently recaptured airbase 40 miles south of Mosul. Obama faces criticism with this decision as he has been promising to wind down American involvement for years now.
