    On this date in 1967, Hurricane Beulah struck south Texas. The storm, which peaked at category 5, weakened somewhat after forming in the southeast Carribean dumped torrential rains on the middle Texas coast and spawned nearly 100 tornadoes. The damages approached $1 billion and 15 people died from the flooding and high winds in Texas.
