    On this date in 1986, severe weather moved from South Dakota into Iowa. The high winds derailed 18 cars of a freight train near the town of Boone, Iowa. Almost all of the cars fell 187 feet into the Des Moines River. The storm also spawned several damaging tornadoes, including one that cost $50 million, near Sioux City.
