Fantasia (1940)
Still considered a technical masterpiece a half century after its premiere, Fantasia was actually a box-office dud in its initial release. Subsequent reissues and a cult-like following have made the marvel a classic for children and adults alike. Leopold Stokowski conducted the eight fantasy pieces that are set to such singular compositions as Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
