More Recent Years

The two most discussed topics in any College Football Recap season are “Who's No.1?” and “Who for the Heisman?” Both questions began to attract serious national interest in 1936 when the Associated Press introduced its weekly sportswriters and broadcasters Top 20 poll and the Downtown Athletic Club of New York City renamed its player of the year trophy in memory of John W. Heisman and made it a national award.

But there is more to a review of the last 53 years than listing AP's national champions and the DAC's Heisman Trophy winners. This section chronicles each year providing a brief summary of the season, the final AP Top 20 (with head coaches, regular season and overall records), major bowl games, major conference champions, the leading Heisman votegetters, other major award winners, and the consensus All-America team.
